Shortly after Liam Payne’s death on October 16, his friend Roger Nores was in such a state of ‘shock’ he made a disturbing comment about his disbelief over the incident.

Liam tragically died at 31 after falling from a third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires October.

It was confirmed yesterday that five people had been charged over the singer’s death – one of whom is Nores. Members of staff at the CasaSur Palermo hotel, including chief receptionist Esteban Grassi and head of security Gilda Martin, were also charged with manslaughter.

An Argentinian entrepreneur, Nores grew close to Liam back in 2020 following their encounter at a Vogue event in London. The pair had been together on the fateful day of Liam’s death, although he has always insisted he did nothing wrong.

Speaking last month, Nores said: “I never abandoned Liam, I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened.

“There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could have never imagined something like this would happen… I’m really heart-broken with this tragedy, and I’ve been missing my friend every day.”

This week, writing in MailOnline, journalist Fred Kelly said he met with Nores in a cafe shortly after Liam’s death and his words were nothing short of chilling.

Fred wrote: “The most shocking charge is the one brought against Payne’s friend and confidant Roger Nores, a man I got to know well back in November. When I first met Roger in a Buenos Aires cafe a month after Payne’s death, it was clear that he was still in shock.”

Noting that Nores was “visibly distraught”, he is said to have retorted: “I keep thinking I’m going to bump into him or my phone’s going to ring and he’ll be on the other end of the line.”

Nores recently appeared in a TMZ documentary to dispel notions of his involvement in Payne’s tragic demise. Featuring in TMZ Investigates: Liam Payne: Who’s to Blame? shortly before the indictment, he adamantly claimed innocence regarding Liam’s passing.

Nores has insisted that Liam was “in good spirits” and “perfectly balanced” on the day of his tragic death, contradicting widespread reports suggesting that the star had been in a frenzied state just hours before. Reports have emerged that Liam was drunk and disorderly shortly before he fell from his hotel balcony, with one hotel employee even calling emergency services prior to the star’s untimely demise.

However, in a documentary, Nores refuted this portrayal of the singer, stating: “I’m a very good friend of Liam, and I was with him the day that he passed away. He was in good spirits. He was like talking to 10 or 15 Americans that were here for a wedding. And so he was talking to them, and he was joking around.”

Hotel workers made two 911 phone calls before Liam was found dead. A caller appearing to be the chief receptionist said they had a guest who had taken “too many drugs and alcohol”, and was “trashing the entire room”, before the line cut out. In a second call, the same caller warned the guest’s life “may be in danger” as the room had a balcony, and asked the operator to send someone “urgently”.
