Liam Payne’s friend, Roger Nores, has appeared on US television to insist he had nothing to do with the late singer’s death.

The One Direction singer died aged 31 on October 16 after falling to his death from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is believed Nores is one of the five people under investigation by authorities following his tragic death.

Argentinian officials have suspected him of abandoning the star before his death. “He was in good spirits, he was talking to 10 or 15 Americans that were here for a wedding,” he told TMZ, which has produced a new documentary focusing on who could be responsible for the singer’s death called TMZ Investigates: Liam Payne: Who’s to Blame?

“He was perfectly balanced, talking to everybody, having fun, laughing, so nothing out of the ordinary. So that’s when I said, ‘bye’. He seemed playful and happy. I went to the hotel three times to check on him. He seemed tipsy but nothing out of the ordinary.”

An eyewitness, who also appears in the documentary, claimed he was more intoxicated as they day went on. Businessman Roger, who is himself from Argentina, formed a friendship with Liam in 2020 after they met at an event hosted by Vogue in London – and he was with the star on the day he died.

It has previously been reported that Roger was with the singer soon before his fateful fall – and now Roger has claimed Liam was in “good spirits” the last time he saw him. Roger previously faced accusations of “abandonment” following Liam’s death – an accusation he has denied – and he has not been charged with abandonment.

While reports have suggested Liam was drunk and disorderly soon before he fell from his hotel balcony – and one hotel employee called emergency services before the star’s death – Roger has suggested this is an incorrect depiction of the singer. Sharing his version of events, he claims Liam was happily engaging with other hotel guests soon before his death.

Earlier, a toxicology report shed light on the singer’s final moments, with experts sharing a devastating find about his horror fall. On November 7,a report from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Officedetermined that traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” had been found in Liam’s system. Officials also ruled out suicide, explaining that “in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it”.
