Producer Sam Pounds has announced that a single he recorded with Liam Payne will be released on Friday, almost two weeks after the former One Direction singer’s tragic death
The first posthumous release from Liam Payne will likely occur later this week.
The late singer, 31, died in Argentina on October 16 after a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in the country’s capital, Buenos Aires. The One Direction singer’s body remains overseas as an investigation into the hours leading up to his passing continues. The Argentine prosecutor’s office recently rule that the dad-of-one’s cause of death was due to multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding.
Tributes poured in for Liam as the news of his death broke earlier this month, with many rushing to stream the late star’s solo music and One Direction hits as they mourned the former boyband sensation. Now, almost two weeks on from Liam’s passing, it looks fans could be about to get some new tunes from their late idol.
Grammy-winning producer and singer Sam Pounds, who had been recording music in the studio with Liam prior to his passing, has announced song they had been working on together, titled Do No Wrong, will be released on Friday. Sharing the news on social media, Sam penned: “I pray that this will be a blessing to the world like Liam has always dreamed.

“I pray angels will comfort you all everyday while listening. I pray that this song will be a blessing to Ruth, Bear, and the entire family. I pray that this song eclipses the negative echoes. I pray supernatural positive healing power will embrace each and every one of you… With love let’s all BE the blessing.”
Sam also shared an image of the song’s cover art, revealing a November 1 release date. The single will be available in three forms: the original, a live mix and an a cappella version. Sam paid tribute to Liam in the wake of his death and last week, shared a clip of them both in the studio together working on the upcoming single. Liam had wanted controversial singer Chris Brown to feature on the track, according to Sam.
One Direction’s five studio albums surged back into the UK top 40 last week following the devastating death of Liam. The band’s 2013 album, Midnight Memories, featuring hits like Best Song Ever and Story Of My Life, has re-entered the UK albums chart on Friday at number 13, while Made In The AM (2015) is back at 21, according to the Official Charts Company. Four (2014) is also back at 22, Take Me Home (2012) at 25, and their debut album, Up All Night (2011), at 38.
Two songs from the boy band, Night Changes and Story Of My Life, have also re-entered the top 10, reaching new peaks on the singles chart at numbers six and nine respectively. After One Direction announced their indefinite hiatus in 2016, the members pursued solo careers with Liam releasing his debut solo album, LP1, in 2019. His song, Strip That Down, with Quavo, has re-entered the singles chart at 41, while his collaboration with Rita Ora, For You, is at number 43 this week. His final solo release, Teardrops, has made its chart debut at number 85.
In 2008, a young Liam Payne auditioned for The X Factor at just 14, crooning Frank Sinatra’s classic ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, with Simon Cowell suggesting he come back in two years. True to advice, Liam returned in 2010, impressing the judges with a rendition of Michael Bublé’s ‘Cry Me A River’ and was then teamed up with four other solo contestants at boot camp, leading to the creation of One Direction.
Following the tragic news of his death, an outpouring of tributes has been seen for Payne, who shared the stage with Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. His former bandmates released a heartfelt statement saying they are “completely devastated” and will miss him immensely, cherishing the “memories we shared with him will be treasured forever”.
Liam’s Kate Cassidy said she has “lost the best part of myself” following the singer’s death at the age of 31. In a post to Instagram on Wednesday, a week following the singer’s death, Kate said: “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words.

“I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone – millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved. You are – because I can’t say were – my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt just as special as I did.
“Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into. None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things.
She continued: “Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.” Kate then said the pair had sat “manifesting our lives together” a few weeks ago and revealed she had a note from the singer, which she has kept “close”.
According to Kate, it said: “Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444”. “I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned,” she added. “You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel. I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go.”
