A guest at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel has opened up about Liam Payne’s final moments before his tragic death.

The One Direction singer, 31, died after falling 45ft from the third-floor balcony . The singer’s cause of death was given as polytrauma, from multiple traumatic injuries. A toxicology report found that a combination of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant were all present in Liam’s bloodstream.

A guest who stayed across the hall from Liam has now shed insight into the star’s final hours for the first time. Doug Jones said he listened to disturbing sounds of ‘clanging, banging and whooping’ for hours leading up to the fatal fall.

Doug, a 36-year-old from Texas, was staying at the hotel while attending a friend’s wedding in Buenos Aires. He had no idea how famous Liam was when he was staying just yards from him. Doug says on the day of October 16, he was alerted to the presence in room 301 as he heard ‘bizarre’ noises of clanging, banging and whooping.

This was followed by constant slamming of Liam’s door as if people were ‘coming and going nonstop’. At one point, Doug says someone tried to open his door and he was forced to yell at them to stop, with the noises from across the hall continuing. He described the noises became ‘bizarre and manic’ as the day drew on.

“[The shouting] just sounded manic, almost insane,” he revealed in a new interview with Rolling Stone. “I heard the loudest one around five, and then I started hearing all the sirens.” Jones revealed he was with close friend Bret Watson, who was getting married, when Watson tried to check into the room Payne was occupying. Watson booked room 310 six months prior for his parents to stay in ahead of the wedding.

However, Watson was informed by the front desk that the room was no longer available as they couldn’t get another guest “to check out”. Payne had been staying in the country with girlfriend at the time Kate Cassidy, who flew back to America prior to his death.

Kate , 25,later admitted she returned home from their holiday early to care for their dog, Nala. “I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility,” the TikTok star told The Sun. “We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur. Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”

After his death, police discovered substances in his hotel room, as well as damaged objects and furniture, according to the public prosecutor’s office. Five people have been charged in Argentina in connection with the death, three with manslaughter and two with supplying cocaine. The British musician died from “polytrauma”, meaning multiple traumatic injuries.

Liam’s funeral, held in November in Buckinghamshire, was attended by Cheryl, the mother of his son Bear, and fellow One Direction stars Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, along with his family and friends. His girlfriend, Kate, recently admitted she still rings her late partner’s phone despite him no longer being there. She also confessed she can no longer listen to his songs.
