A new documentary investigating the death of One Direction star Liam Payne has been blasted by fans of the star with many pleading with people not to watch it

A new documentary into the tragic death of Liam Payne has been blasted by fans who refuse to watch it.

The One Direction star fell to his death from a third floor balcony at a hotel in Argentina on October 16. He was just 31 years old.

Now, as an investigation into his death continues, an American outlet has released TMZ Presents: Liam Payne: Who’s to Blame. It aired last night (Monday, December 16) in the United States, but fans have hit out at the invasive content.

Many took to social media to share their concern with one fan pleaded for the publication to “Let him rest”.

A second echoed the opinion and insisted: “We ask that fans do NOT watch the TMZ “documentary” that will be airing in the US. Do not give them ratings. It’s nothing new and just a way for TMZ to profit off of Liam’s death even more.”

A third slammed the creation, fuming: “@TMZ it is disgusting that you have done a documentary on the death of Liam Payne, especially with the people that have been charged, please think of Liam’s family before showing this, was it not enough that you showed photos of him after he passed.”

And a fourth insisted they wouldn’t be tuning in, saying: “I’m watching the billboard music award and there was an ad for TMZ new documentary series ‘Liam Payne: who’s to blame…’ they can’t be serious. They are actually making money out of that.”

In the documentary, guest at the hotel who claims to have witnessed Liam plunge to his death, said he was “haunted” by the tragic incident. Bret Watson, who was a guest at the Casa Sur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires at the time, said: “We happened to be looking out of the window of our hotel at the pool area to show her [the planner] the view from the hotel.

“We saw Liam fall… and so we immediately rushed out on the balcony to see what it was and when we looked down we could see that it was Liam laying on the ground.” The guest added that he believed the singer died immediately.

Mr Watson continued: “The wedding planner and I looked at each other like ‘oh my God, this is real, this actually happened’.” He also labelled the incident “heartbreaking” and “haunting”, saying the tragedy is something he would never forget.

A report from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office determined that there had been traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” discovered in the singer’s system at the time of his death. Officials also ruled out suicide, saying that “in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it”.
