Lakers make decision on Bronny James ahead of four-game road trip: “Is it because they want to hold the spot for Bronny?”

Bronny James has been making definite strides over the last several weeks. He has had several strong games in the G League, and on Thursday, he had a breakout performance in the NBA when the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers called him up.

He scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and dished off five assists on Thursday in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. However, he then went 0-of-4 in Saturday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, which seemed to reinforce the fact that while he’s been doing well in the G League, he’s still not ready for the big leagues.

The Lakers are about to start a four-game road trip, and ahead of the first game of that trip, which will take place on Monday versus the Orlando Magic, they decided to move James back to the G League.

The G League regular season is winding down, and South Bay, which has a 13-17 record, will not be moving on to the playoffs. It lost to the Sioux Falls Skyforce 117-113 on Friday despite 35 points from rookie guard Quincy Olivari.

So far in the G League regular season, James is averaging 20.6 points, 5.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds a game.
