Kelly Clarkson made rare comments about co-parenting with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
The 42-year-old singer-songwriter was a guest on the Thursday, March 27, episode of the Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelce podcast, where she discussed the difficulty of being a working mom. The pop star admitted her children — daughter River, 10, and son Remington, 8, whom she shares with Blackstock, 47 — have different expectations for their dad.
The American Idol alum first voiced her frustration about her kid’s school having events in the middle of the workday and explained that her absence upsets her daughter. Kylie seemed to relate, saying that when she has to go on a work trip, her girls are less understanding than when their dad, retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, traveled for football season.

“It’s funny though how different it is because, like, even from a young age, like we didn’t teach them just innately, you’re like, ‘He’s allowed to be somewhere, but you’re not.’ Like, that is, like, real interesting,” Clarkson remarked.
“There’s a lot that I keep in because…co-parenting is fun,” the “Because Of You” hitmaker sarcastically remarked. “It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?”
Clarkson and Blackstock wed in October 2013. The pair finalized their divorce in March 2022 after going back and forth about custody of their kids, child support, and alimony.
In November, Clarkson spoke to KOST 103.5 about her relationship with her little ones.
“I’m seeing my kids grow real fast, and it’s going by real fast. I’m happy for them because I enjoy all the stages. I love hanging with my little ones,” she gushed. “They’re so funny, and they’re so cool, and they’re only going to want me around for so long because they’re my kids, and I know they’re going to be like me and be like, ‘Bye!’ Which I’m cool with, but I want to enjoy it for as long as I can.
