Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy has revealed what his state of mind was like on what would become their final day together before she returned home from Argentina
Kate Cassidy has revealed how Liam Payne’s state of mind was when she said what would be her final goodbye.
The influencer has spoke out for the first time since the One Direction star’s tragic death last year. Liam died at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina. Kate has admitted she does not remember their final phone conversation but they enjoyed horseback riding on their last day together.
She took what would become her last photo of Liam as he sat on a horse just before she left the country to return to their home alone. In her new interview, Kate admitted: “He looks so happy.” She had also sent her final text to him when she returned to their home in Miami, Flordia. Kate had told Liam: “I can’t wait for you to get home and see the house.”
It was in reference to her decorating their home for Halloween. Kate and Liam met in September 2022 when she worked as a waitress in Charleston, South Carolina. At the time, Liam had been on a US road trip with his friends yet delayed his flight back to London so he could get to know Kate. They booked a hotel room and spent the next two days together, which ended up cementing their romance.

Kate also revealed why she left him in Argentina. She burst into tears as she admitted she never thought something could happen to Liam and revealed they lived their “own separate lives”. The influencer also heartbreakingly admitted to still calling Liam’s phone to hear his voicemail.
Following his death, Kate would fall asleep listening to his songs, but now she can no longer play any of them. She confessed: “Maybe one day, but not right now.” Kate told the Sun: “From the moment I met Liam, I genuinely believed we were soulmates; he was the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across, and genuinely one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life.
“That he won’t be there with me to navigate through this life, that I’ll have to deal with this without him by my side . . . it’s really hard.” Following Liam’s death, Kate paid tribute to her late boyfriend in a heartfelt social media post. She revealed they had been hoping to take their relationship to the next level. She said: “A few weeks ago we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together. I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it.
“It said: ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444. Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way that we planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel. I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me wherever I go. Forever yours, Katelyn, 444.”
