Karoline Leavitt has drawn admiration and scorn after posting a snap to her Instagram account over the weekend. The White House Press Secretary and mom-of-one was skewered over a snap detail in her outfit but one commenter.
It came after Leavitt lashed out at the country of France, claiming the French should be “grateful” to the U.S.
Responding to calls for the Statue of Liberty – a gift from France – to be returned, Leavitt said: “My advice to that unnamed low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now, so they should be very grateful to our great country.”
Despite her harsh words for the nation, the Press Secretary still carried a handbag by French fashion house Louis Vuitton. She appeared to be proudly wearing the Neverfull MM tote, which retails at $2,030.
“Why having a Louis Vuitton bag if everything from France is so bad????” the commenter wrote.
Others, however, had praise for the White House Press Secretary. One wrote: “Absolutely stunning representation of our country! Thank you for what you do and stand for and helping Mr. Trump!”
Another said: “Wow Karoline you look fantastic. Its great to watch someone with such professionalism from across the pond.”
“Young, smart and gorge. So refreshing. Thank you for all excellent work Karoline,” another wrote.
It comes after Leavitt showed off her wholesome Sunday after addressing age controversy with a fiery post.
At 27, she is the youngest ever person in the role, a fact that has drawn criticism. However, she shrugged that off this weekend to spend time with her son.
Karoline wrote alongside a sweet picture of her son: “Sunday morning muffins with my sous chef.”
She then posted another snap showing an older relative pushing the little boy in his chair through a park filled with blossoms. Leavitt wrote: “Niko being pushed by his great grandma!”
