White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt giggled when Fox News’ Peter Doocy questioned her about President Donald Trump’s recent Taylor Swift remarks during a press meeting.

The 27-year-old began laughing even before Doocy finished asking her: “What does President Trump mean when he says that Taylor Swift is no longer hot?”

Leavitt said: “Look, he is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work and I will leave it at that.” The president took to social media platform Truth Social on May 16 to ask his followers: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'”

Trump first bashed Swift, one of the music industry’s most powerful and influential stars, in September after she endorsed his opponent — former Vice President Kamala Harris — in the 2024 presidential election.

“I hate Taylor Swift,” Trump said at the time on Truth Social, days after the singer endorsed Harris after being pressured from fans in an Instagram post to her 284 million followers immediately after the general election debate.

In her 2020 Netflix documentary Miss Americana, Swift spoke about her political leanings and also slammed the then-former president.

Filmed during the 2018 midterm elections, she discussed endorsing the opponent of U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, the ultra-conservative from Tennessee who she called “Trump in a wig.”

When her publicist Tree Paine tried to foresee potential PR issues for the pop star, including backlash from the Trump, Swift said: “I don’t care.”

Swift has rarely posted or mentioned Trump by name in recent years, except to point out in her endorsement that there was AI showing her “falsely endorsing” him.

“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site,” Swift wrote, referencing Trump taking to his social media platform Truth Social and posting several suspected artificial intelligence-generated images alluding to Swift and fans’ support for his campaign.

Meanwhile, Trump has often poked at Swift. In September, during a Fox News interview, Trump said that he preferred Swift’s close friend Brittany Mahomes, the Kansas City businesswoman and wife of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

After attending the Super Bowl where Swift was booed by Eagles fans, Trump posted a message on Truth Social: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”

During the Eagles’ Super Bowl celebration at the White House last month, Trump took another jab at the pop star.

“I watched in person. I was there along with Taylor Swift. How did that work out?” Trump said during the April 28 celebration, drawing laughter from the crowd of Eagles fans. “How did that one work out?”
