The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, caused a mild panic on Wednesday when it was announced that she would be holding another press briefing in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room alongside a “special guest.” It was later revealed that the special guest, Patty Morin, was the mother of a young woman named Rachel, who was killed by an alleged illegal immigrant.

According to Morin, she was left in the dark about her daughter’s death because authorities claimed they wanted to protect the integrity of the case. Speaking to a silent briefing room, Morin relayed the horrifying details that led to her daughter’s death.

“A lot of you don’t know the whole story about Rachel and the crime that was committed against her,” she began. ” Even us, her family, didn’t even know all the details.”

According to the distraught mother, authorities sought to keep the details “close to their chests.” Morin alleges the authorities “didn’t want to do anything to hurt the case and keep the integrity of the case.”

“I sat for the last two weeks in her trial and we saw layer upon layer upon layer of evidence against the accused,” Morin continued. “The things that we thought that maybe this might of happened, we didn’t know but we were at the trial and got all the puzzle pieces.”

Morin’s presence in the briefing room comes a day after Leavitte seemed to be unable to answer a reporter’s question about whether or not she believed Trump was abusing his power by asking the DOJ to investigate Chris Krebs. Trump fired Krebs shortly after he ruled that the 2020 election was among the safest in recent history, opting to do so via a tweet.

The president, who suffered a mental collapse after a ‘senile’ moment last week, has long pedaled conspiracy theories that the election that saw Joe Biden ascend to the White House. Trump has continued to claim the election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him despite evidence to the contrary.

Leavitt fielded a question about the controversy during Tuesday’s briefing. The reporter asked, “The president has long said that it would be an abuse of power to direct prosecutors to investigate them. Last week, President Trump explicitly directed the Justice Department to scrutinize Chris Krebs to see if it can find any evidence of criminal wrongdoing.”

“How is that not an abuse of power to direct the Justice Department to look into an individual, a named individual,” the journalist asked. The question seemed to cause Leavitt to flounder as she attempted to answer his question without compromising the Trump administration’s goals.

“Look, the president signed that executive order. It’s the position of the president and this White House that it’s well within his authority to do it,” she said, obviously flustered. “Otherwise, he wouldn’t have signed it. And, he signed it, and that’s his policy.”

Leavitt’s briefing was expected to cover a wide variety of topics, including the recent meeting with El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to the ongoing world trade war the U.S. perpetuated with most countries, but especially China. On Monday, both Trump and Bukele fielded questions from the Oval Office.

Both leaders were bombarded with tough questions about the agreement that the presidents have to send immigrants from the U.S. to El Salvador’s maximum-security prison, CECOT. One such man who was sent there was wrongfully deported from the U.S., has caused an avalanche of litigation and even a ruling from the Supreme Court as his family attempts to return him home.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia was sent back to his home country of El Salvador after living for 15 years in the U.S after Trump’s administration claimed he was part of the dangerous MS-13 gang. Several courts have ruled his deportation illegal and he was awarded protected status from an immigration court for fears that the notorious MS-13 gang would persecute him.

The Trump administration refuses to waiver from the line that Garcia was, in fact, a leader of the gang who was hiding out in Maryland, with Leavitt once again slamming the man during her Tuesday press briefing. She provided a status update on the number of deportations across the country as she listed several specific deportations of alleged rapists and murderers across the country.
