Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream were in dire need of a win after suffering back-to-back losses in their last two games. They entered Sunday’s contest against the defending champions, New York Liberty, looking to get back to winning ways as they hosted Sabrina Ionescu and Co. at Gateway Center Arena.
Atlanta did just that by taking down New York, 90-81, to improve to 11-6 on the season. The Liberty, on the other hand, suffered their fifth loss in the last seven games and fell to 11-5 after winning nine consecutive contests to start the season.
Griner played her role in the Dream’s concerted effort to defeat the champs. The nine-time All-Star finished with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting, four rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes of action.
Griner took to social media on Monday to share her three-word reaction to Atlanta’s big win.
“Dubski at home,” she posted on Instagram.
This was a crucial win for the Dream, who are looking to make some noise in the WNBA this season. It was a statement victory against the Liberty, who, despite their recent slump, are still considered the favorites to win it all this year.
Sunday’s win also saw the Dream close the gap on the Liberty in the standings. Atlanta remains in fourth place in the league, but it is now just a half game behind New York, which currently holds the No. 3 spot.

The Atlanta Dream are fourth in the WNBA Eastern Conference with an 11-6 record.
