Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham ruthlessly clapped back at “dumb as f—” critics who believe that Caitlin Clark is not the face of the WNBA.

Earlier this month, WNBA players overwhelmingly crowned Clark as the future face of the league in an anonymous poll — but that hasn’t stopped some opponents from taking unsubtle shots at the 23-year-old.

On the inaugural episode of the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast, Cunningham questioned why some fans, pundits and even players are still refusing to give Clark her due praise.

“It literally p—– me off when people are like, ‘She’s not the face of the league.’ What?” Cunningham began. “There’s really good, well-known people in our league. I’m not discrediting them.

“We have a lot of bad—– in our league, like, hell yeah to that. I’m all for that.

“But when people try to argue that she’s not the face of our league, or our league would be where we’re at without her? You’re dumb as s—. You’re literally dumb as f—.”

In particular, Cunningham took issue with Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum, who made sure to note that Clark was not part of the decision-making process for the “Pay Us What You Owe Us” shirts that players wore during the All-Star Game.

“The thing is, she’s super nice, and she’s really freaking good at basketball,” Cunningham said of Plum before agreeing that some people are jealous of the new wave of WNBA talent.

“But I just hate that, because this is what we’ve always wanted as a league. So, like, who cares who gets the credit? And if you’re smart, you’re making money off of them. Like, you are literally making money from the viewership.

“I just hate when, people do stuff to get [attention], it’s like clickbait. And there’s so much clickbait, especially surrounding Caitlin. Just be nice. Why can’t people just be nice?”

According to Cunningham, one simply has to look at the nationwide reception Clark receives to know that she’s the biggest star in the league.

“I think it’s so funny because she’s like 22, 23 years old, and the whole world is watching her. Like, it is a cult following,” Cunningham explained.

“Anywhere you go, it is a home game wherever we play. She has security with her 24-7. People are outrageous. Think of the most famous person that you know or met, times it by 10, 20. It’s insane.”

Despite all the attention that Clark receives, Cunningham asserted that the Iowa product is just like everyone else behind the scenes.

“She’s just goofy,” Cunningham said of Clark. “Everyone expects her to be a certain way, and she is on the court. But, like, she’s low-key a kid. She’s 23 years old.

“She’s like my little cousin, you know what I mean? And so, it’s been fun just to see where she’s at in her career and whatnot. But, I promise you, she’s so chill. She doesn’t care. She’s always in sweats and a sweatshirt.”
