On Monday, September 9, 2024, new reports regarding rapper Rich Homie Quan’s unexpected passing were released from the Atlanta Police Department. According to XXL, the musician’s brother, Andre Munford, stated to the police that he found the singer lying on the kitchen floor hours before his death. Netizens have since reacted to the latest revelations on social media.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed that Rich Homie Quan, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away on Thursday, September 5, at the age of 34. The cause of death was not released at the time of writing this article, however, many have speculated that the singer died from a drug overdose.

In his police statement, Munford said that when he woke up around 3 a.m., he found the rapper asleep on the kitchen floor with food in his mouth. Munford described the scene as “very unusual” and said he picked Lamar from the floor and put him on the couch.

Rich Homie Quan’s girlfriend, Amber Williams, also provided a statement. She stated that she found the rapper sleeping on the sofa when she was getting the kids ready for school in the early hours of the morning. She noted that he was asleep even after she had returned from dropping the children off at school. She later discovered that his body had gone cold and called 911.

Dequantes’ father, Corey Lamar, took to his Instagram stories to express his grief, describing the pain as “unbearable” and pleading with God to “help me understand this.” He wrote:

“Lord please let this be a dream…. Yall pray for me and my family. I feel like I’m crushed into a million pieces.”

Amber Williams, the mother of the rapper’s three children, also took to her Instagram stories to state that the pain was “unbearable.” She wrote:

“I’m traumatized from a moment that’ll forever be in my head. I have nothing to prove because my love for my other half was ALWAYS shown, I had nothing to hide. Please respect me and the family at this time. Our house is no longer a home.”

She continued:

“I’m completely heartbroken 15 years gone. I’ll never be the same. This is a complete nightmare. We never could let go, but you didn’t have to leave me like this. #Numb.”

His family also shared an official statement with People magazine by saying that Lamar was proud of his Atlanta, Georgia roots and that his music traveled across the globe. The statement added:

“While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on.”
