Angel Reese appeared to hit back at Robert Griffin III after the former NFL quarterback claimed someone from her inner circle confirmed that she’d “grown to hate” Caitlin Clark.
Since making their WNBA debuts last season, Clark and Reese have been at the center of several intense on-court moments. They attempted to minimize their rivalry in the offseason, with Reese notably declining to comment on Clark back in May.
Yet, as the 2025 season kicked off, it was clear that their competitive fire hadn’t dimmed. In the very first game, Reese had to be held back following a rough foul by Clark. Even while out with an injury during the Indiana Fever’s second matchup versus the Chicago Sky, Clark couldn’t help but visibly revel in a mistake made by Reese.
On Thursday, Griffin further stoked the flames when he vehemently condemned a racist tweet regarding Reese, who was recently named the cover athlete for NBA 2K26 WNBA Edition.
During the lengthy post, however, the 35-year-old alleged that several people close to Reese informed him that there was truth behind her bitter feud with Clark. “Alright. This has got to stop. There is no place for racism in this world,” Griffin began.
“Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey. I have been quiet on the Angel Reese front because she shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats, threats of physical harm to my family and friends and threats of sexual violence to my children on social media and beyond. That will never be okay with me.
“I never attacked her or her family when I stated and backed up with clear basketball evidence that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. It’s sports. Everybody won’t like each other,” he continued.
“People in Angel’s inner circle called me and told me I was right and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin and being constantly compared to her. Some people made it about race, but I never did and never will. Instead of becoming the villain in anyone’s story, I decided to just not.”

Taking to social media, Reese seemingly poured cold water on Griffin’s claims while accusing him of making up rumors to gain clicks. “Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,” she wrote on X.
Reese’s mom, Angel Webb Reese, expressed a similar sentiment, adding: “Man stop with the [lies]. My daughter’s ‘circle’ is so small & tight so I’d be interested 2 know who called U.
“Whomever U say ‘called’ U is not in her circle 2 speak on her feelings towards a media/fandom made up beef. Just stay on that side bc the doors are closed over here.”
In response, Griffin doubled down on what he heard and suggested that Reese “tighten up” her circle.
“I spoke up in support of Angel Reese against racism not to start drama,” he wrote. “But I won’t let anyone twist the truth just because it’s inconvenient to them. Instead of trying to check me, just tighten up your circle.
“They calling me and saying you hate Caitlin Clark, not the other way around. I have zero interest in being the villain in anyone’s story. I just want to have fun, tell the truth and celebrate sports. But I won’t pretend or lie just to protect feelings.”
