Jon Stewart‘s loss could be Greg Gutfeld‘s gain. Appearing on Fox News Tuesday, Elon Musk accepted Gutfeld’s invitation to guest on his show, though time will tell if it actually happens.
Musk’s comments came during an appearance on The Five, the late afternoon show that Gutfeld cohosts with Dana Perino, Jesse Watters, and Jeanine Pirro.
“My next question is when the hell are you doing my show?” Gutfeld asked Musk. “I’ve left voicemail messages, I’ve sent carrier pigeons, I get no response.”
After a long pause (which may or may not have been caused by a satellite delay), Musk responded, “Well, I’d be happy to do your show. I’ve actually seen pieces of your show and it’s very funny. Actually it’s my style of humor and so I look forward to doing your show.”
Of course, we’ve heard this before from Musk. He agreed to sit down with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last month under the condition that the interview air unedited, terms that Jon Stewart and the show’s producers readily agreed to, but Musk appeared to reneg later, calling Stewart “a skilled propagandist.”
Gutfeld appeared to have doubts of his own last night on his show when he asked his panel whether they thought Musk would keep his word. (The consensus appeared to be that he wouldn’t.)
Musk would almost certainly face more friendly questions on Gutfeld! than at The Daily Show. Gutfeld himself has been a staunch defender of the billionaire businessman of late, going so far as to call him “Team Trump’s superhero” last month.
That said, as guest panelist Kennedy pointed out on Gutfeld! Wednesday night, with news breaking Wednesday that Trump has told members of his inner circle that Musk will soon be stepping back from his high profile role in the administration, he may be less inclined to appear on the show as a private citizen. Stay tuned.
