Court documents have revealed details of the final financial records of late Happy Mondays singer Paul Ryder in the UK following his death in July 2022 at the age of 58

Happy Mondays founding member Paul Ryder left £6,000 to the British state after dying without making a will, court documents have revealed.

The bass player was just 58 when he passed away in July 2022 – with his death linked to heart disease and diabetes. He performed in the Happy Mondays along with his brother Shaun, musician Gary Whelan, Celebrity Big Brother star Mark ‘Bez’ Berry, keyboardist Paul Davis and guitarist Mark Day.

The group had been due on stage the day Paul’s body was discovered in his bed by his mother, hours before he was set to perform at the Kubix Festival in Sunderland. Now details of the late musician’s finances have emerged after the High Court in England bequeathed the star’s money to his daughter, Amelia.

The father-of-four had £13,262 in assets when he died. However, it is claimed he did not have a will in the UK when he died and had moved to Los Angeles in the late 2000s – with the majority of royalties and other income believed to be registered abroad.

A probate report, seen by the Mirror has revealed that following the removal of debts and legal fees, his assets in the UK were reduced to £5,978 – and this sum was granted to his daughter. The document also confirmed that Paul’s confirmed place of residence was California at the time of his death.

In July 2022, the official Happy Mondays social media platforms announced the sad passing of the star. They wrote in a statement: “The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning. A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time. Long live his funk.”

After Paul died, his ex-wife Angela Smith, who he was married to from 2010 until 2016 and shared two children with, paid tribute, saying: “His legacy is that he lived a very colourful life and did some things that most people would try to keep secret – but Paul has been brave enough to tell his whole story, warts and all. He’s never been afraid of telling the truth and I know one of the reasons he was willing to speak out about what he went through was he hoped it might help others going through something similar.”

Happy Mondays star Bez was hit with more tragedy in 2022 as his father passed away hours after news broke that Paul had been found dead. A family source told the MailOnline at the time: “The band has had two really big hits in the past few weeks. First goes Paul, then Bez had to deal with the death of his father. But Bez is really private when it comes to his parents and family and he didn’t want to make a big public announcement or make a big show of it.”
