Former One Direction singer Liam Payne sadly died last month aged 31 after falling from a hotel balcony, with his funeral expected to take place later this week

Liam Payne’s funeral is expected to take place later this week, with one source suggesting it will be a “huge affair”.

The One Direction star, who sadly died last month after falling from a hotel balcony, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Wolverhampton. A host of celebrities are expected to gather in remembrance.

A source has suggested Liam’s loved ones will choose a place close to Liam’s heart to hold the service in. “Liam will have a very big send off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart,” they revealed.

The source said Liam was “loved by so many people”, meaning the funeral will likely be attended by a lot of Liam’s family members, friends and fans. The source said: “There will obviously be enormous demand and so the service will necessarily be a huge affair.”

“Liam’s funeral is going to be packed with A-listers as he was so well-loved in the showbiz community, and so many of them are so sad about his tragic death,” they explained. Speaking to Radar Online, they added: “There are going to be a series of song tributes from some very big acts as he loved singing and making music until the end.”

Liam’s body is expected to be released this week, with plans for his father Geoff Payne, who traveled to Argentina shortly after Liam’s death, to receive his son’s remains. Liam’s body can be flown back to the UK once authorities in Argentina conclude their investigation into his death. As per local newspaper La Nacion, legal sources have confirmed that the process to repatriate him back to the UK has started.
