Chris Brown won his second Grammy in 20 years.

Fans weren’t thrilled that the rapper, who previously pled guilty to one count of felony assault, was given such a prestigious recognition. Chris won the Best R&B Album award at the award show for his album 11:11, beating out Muni Long’s Revenge, Lucy Daye’s Algorithm, Usher’s Coming Home, and Lalah Hathaway’s Vantablack. While Chris celebrated on social media, writing, “WE DID IT!!!!!!!” on his Instagram story, fans were not participating in the hype.

“Ew,” wrote a fan on Bluesky as many others echoed the word. Another similarly said: “Ew. You hate to see Chris Brown winning anything.”

A third said: “No way Chris Brown just won a Grammy in 2025…… never tell me cancel culture is a real thing when that man still has a career.”

LOS ANGELES, CA - DECEMBER 16: R&B singer Chris Brown appears in court for a probation violation hearing during which his probation was revoked by a Los Angeles Superior judge on December 16, 2013 in Los Angeles, California. The revocation was sparked by Brown's October arrest in Washington, D.C., where he allegedly punched a man who was trying to get a picture with Brown. Brown was first placed on probation after the 2009 domestic violence case in which he pleaded guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna. (Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)

While he was nominated in three categories, he only picked up one award this year. The musician also won in the same category for his album F.A.M.E. at the 54th Grammy Award.

Chris became particularly controversial after he famously pled guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He was then sentenced to five years of probation and community service. His probation was then paused in 2013 due to a hit-and-run case filed. He then hit a man, racking up another assault charge which caused him to be ordered into rehab. He later was shunned from rehab due to rule violations and was placed in custody.

Thereafter, he went through domestic violence and anger management counseling. He gave rehab another attempt and was diagnosed with a myriad of mental health concerns. Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin officially closed the Rihanna case in 2015, but fans weren’t moving on quite as quickly.

Instead, they rallied behind Rihanna who has taken a step back from music. “Chris Brown you are so disgusting and everyone who supports him is no better,” a fan wrote. They followed it up with: “Had to unfollow someone on ig the other day bc they posted a chris brown thirst trap. i still can’t believe he even has a platform or people that sympathize w him.”

A fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “chris brown winning a grammy should be a sign to get rid of the entire academy or whoever the f— votes cause WHYYYY.”
