A newspaper from Argentina has revealed that, according to sources, Liam Payne’s body could remain there between 10 and 15 days, until the results of toxicological tests are known

Liam Payne’s funeral is expected to take place next month as an update has been given on the late singer’s autopsy.

The 31-year-old former One Direction star tragically died after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday. His father Geoff has travelled to the country in South America for the recognition of the body and to arrange its repatriation.

It has now emerged that Liam’s body could remain in Argentina between 10 and 15 days, until the results of toxicological tests are known. Once the investigation ends, the singer’s remains will be handed over to his relatives and repatriated to England, according to sources.

This would mean that the funeral could then take place at the beginning of next month, once his body returns to the UK. Argentinian newspaper Clarín reported the claims and quoted sources from the British Embassy who said: “We are supporting Liam Payne’s family and are in contact with local authorities.”

It comes after the preliminary results of an autopsy, performed by the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue on Viamonte Street, revealed that Liam died from “multiple traumas” that caused “internal and external bleeding” after his fall earlier this week. The Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement: “The head injuries were sufficient to cause death , while the internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death.”

The report stated a toxicological and anatomical-pathological study of his blood and urine were being undertaken to determine whether there were any traces of drugs. Additionally, the musician’s medical history might be requested to analyse his mental health history. An investigation is being led by Prosecutor No. 16, headed by Andrés Madrea, with testimonies being taken by Deputy Secretary María Florencia Lavaggi. A full autopsy results will be revealed in due course.

After travelling to Argentina, Liam’s father paid tribute to his son at the hotel where he tragically died, as he watched tributes left by fans and thanked them for their support. Following the tragic news, Liam’s family said in a statement: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”

One Direction united to share an emotional joint statement on Thursday night. In a messaged signed “Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry”, Liam’s One Direction bandmates said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.

“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
