The Celebrity Traitors winner, 49, opened up during a candid conversation with his best friend Amanda Holden, 54, on their BBC series Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job.

Sitting together in the sunshine and sipping Aperol Spritz on a balcony overlooking the sea, the pair reflected on how fast life moves – and how they had both endured painful divorces.

Although Alan didn’t name his former husband during the chat, the comedian spoke openly about the impact his past relationships have had on him.

The conversation began when Alan discussed how he feels about turning 50. Amanda responded by saying they had both been through a lot in life “including divorce”, admitting she herself had made “bad decisions”.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Alan said:
“It’s not really about decisions for me – it’s about knowing your worth. The amount of times I’ve been walked over and people have demeaned me.”

He added:
“There are times when I wish I’d said no, I wish I’d been bolder… stronger.”

Alan then shared the one thing he finds hardest about dating again.

“I don’t really trust anyone, really. That’s the trouble – I think that’s my main thing,” he admitted quietly.

“But, yeah, it’s just getting out there and trusting, isn’t it?”

Alan was in a relationship with ex-husband Paul Drayton for 14 years. After a decade together, the pair married in 2018, with Adele officiating their ceremony at her Los Angeles mansion.

They went on to buy a farm in West Sussex and raised animals together. But the strain of lockdown proved too much and the couple divorced in 2022 after four years of marriage.

Paul later spoke to The Sun while Alan was appearing on Celebrity Traitors, which he eventually won.

He said:
“Alan was tolerant most of the time when we were together, but if he felt someone was taking advantage of him, he would cut them out of his life. He’s ruthless in that way.”

Paul also joked about Alan’s performance on the show, adding:
“I don’t want to say he’s a good liar, but he’ll be good at playing the game.”

Reflecting on a moment in Traitors when Alan touched Paloma Faith’s face to “murder her in plain sight”, Paul quipped:
“There were times in our relationship when I bet Alan wished he could have touched my face and bumped me off, just to save him from the stress I was causing him.”

He concluded:
“I fell in love with him because he’s funny. We used to make each other laugh.”

Despite winning Celebrity Traitors last year, it is clear Alan is still quietly rebuilding his confidence — and learning how to trust again.
