“I know what he’s capable of” – LeBron James shares his thoughts on a Clippers player’s future

The Los Angeles Lakers completed a back-to-back sweep of the Los Angeles Clippers, securing victories in both NBA matchups. Luka Doncic and LeBron James starred in the wins, while the Clippers struggled to keep pace. Following the games, James offered his perspective on a player who could be a key factor for the Clippers in the future—Ben Simmons.

Simmons was only able to participate in one of the two games due to right knee soreness. In the lone contest he played, he logged just 16 minutes, finishing with two points, three assists, and three rebounds.

“I think he’s still young with them,” James told ClutchPoints when asked about Simmons’ fit with the Clippers. I don’t think he’s had enough games under his belt with them [yet]. It’s always difficult to… We’re going through it right now, too. A guy trying to change in the middle of the season to a situation that you’re not comfortable with, and you’re just trying to figure it out.”

LeBron’s comments highlight the ongoing adjustment period for Simmons, who is still looking to carve out a defined role with his new team.

Injuries have derailed a once-promising career

Once considered an elite two-way player with All-NBA potential, Simmons’ career has been plagued by injuries—most notably lingering back and knee issues that have limited his explosiveness and confidence. After missing the entire 2021-22 season due to personal and health-related concerns, he struggled to find his rhythm with the Brooklyn Nets before landing in Los Angeles.

The Clippers took a low-risk chance on Simmons, hoping that his size, defensive ability, and passing could add another layer to their championship aspirations. However, his injury history raises concerns about his long-term impact.

A career at a crossroads

At 28 years old, Simmons is at a pivotal point in his career. Once a franchise cornerstone in Philadelphia, he now finds himself fighting for relevance on a loaded Clippers roster. While he may never regain the dominant form that made him a three-time All-Star, his ability to adapt will determine whether he remains a key contributor or fades into the background.

With LeBron acknowledging the challenges of midseason adjustments, the question remains—can Simmons reinvent himself and become a meaningful piece for the Clippers, or will injuries and inconsistency continue to define his career?
