Ruth Langsford has returned to Instagram after her estranged husband Eamonn Holmes whisked his glamorous new girlfriend, Katie Alexander, away on holiday

Ruth Langsford has made a defiant return to social media after her estranged husband, Eamonn Holmes, was papped with his new girlfriend.

In photos which have apparently left the Loose Women star, 64, and her friends ‘gobsmacked’, Eamonn, also 64, and relationship councillor, Katie Alexander, 42, were seen at the port of Barcelona over the weekend.

Ruth, who was reportedly more of Eamonn’s ‘carer than his wife’ during the last few years of their marriage, is yet to comment on his new relationship. However, after the snaps of the GB News star were released, she took to Instagram with a four-word message of independence.

Sharing a snap of herself, sporting clothes from her QVC range, she added the tag: “All my own work”. Holding her phone for the glamorous selfie, Ruth looks gorgeous, sporting cropped navy utility trousers, white trainers and a bright green jacket with her highlighted hair coiffed to perfection.

Her post comes after Eamonn was papped portside on his mobility scooter alongside Katie, as they made a break for the Spanish sun. The father of four moved out of the house he shared in Surrey with Ruth, shortly after they announced their shock split in May – and Katie was regularly seen visiting him in his rented London home.

Speaking of their romantic holiday, a source told The Sun: “The cruise is just the latest proof of their closeness. Katie has been telling pals she and Eamonn are going to be for keeps — and now everyone is starting to believe her.”

They added: “Eamonn’s zest for her — the latest being this all-expenses-paid trip — has wowed Ruth and pals. He has found a new lease of life for sure. Everyone is amazed.” Eamonn and Katie first met in 2015 when her comment on a social media post generated a conversation between the pair.

There’s no suggestion of any overlap between the relationships, although it has been reported Eamonn and Ruth’s marriage came to an end after she was “devastated” to find messages from another woman on his laptop. Ruth, who is still wearing her wedding ring, recently proved she is keen to keep tabs on her ex husband.

In an Instagram post, the Loose Women star uploaded a photo of her brunch, alongside a stack of newspapers. One of the front pages featured a story about Eamonn and his new romance on the cover, with the headline reading: “I feel for TV Ruth.”

After the couple’s split, it was reported Belfast-born Eamonn had become “more and more grumpy” in recent years following his well-documented battle with chronic back pain.

Speaking about the star’s ill health, a friend of the couple said: “Ruth has become more his carer than a wife. Eamonn has been thoroughly miserable.” They continued in MailOnline: “He has had a torrid time with his health, he’s in constant pain, and the truth is he can’t contain how miserable it makes him.”

Eamonn is said to have sought comfort from Katie following his split from Ruth, with a source telling the outlet the Northern Irishman and the relationship councillor are “in it for the long haul”.
