Wednesday star Jenna Ortega reveals whether there will be another dance scene in season 2 of the hit Netflix series. Season 1’s dance scene became a viral sensation, leading to countless videos imitating Wednesday Addams’ distinct and surprising moves on the dance floor. The already iconic scene gained even more notoriety after Ortega shared that she choreographed the dance moves herself and that she was sick on the day the scene was filmed.

While speaking with Extra TV as part of the press tour for Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceOrtega said “Not that I am aware of,” in response to whether there will be another viral dance scene as part of Wednesday‘s season 2 story. Check out the video below:

Ortega’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Winona Ryder jokingly said, “Famous last words,” to this response, with Ortega further building on the humorous exchange with the remark “I’m not looking ahead at the schedule, but I fear maybe I’ll see something.”

Why Wednesday Season 2 Doesn’t Need Another Dance Scene

Season 1’s Viral Moment Cannot Be Repeated

Part of the reason season 1’s dance scene became so popular is that it was such an unexpected moment. Wednesday‘s dark and serious nature made her seem like the kind of individual who would not choose to dance under any circumstances, and yet, when she did, her bizarre moves felt perfectly aligned with her character. Another dance scene in Wednesday season 2 would lose the authenticity and surprise factor that made the season 1 scene work so well.

Since season 2 is focusing more on horror than romantic drama, perhaps one of the new horror elements could rival season 1’s dance scene.

It was a rare moment for the character in season 1, but another dance scene would likely feel contrived. Wednesday is not The Umbrella Academy, where it worked tonally and with the characters’ personalities to have an intricate dance sequence during every season. Season 2 needs to replace the dance by featuring something that can still be memorable and entertaining, and further explore the eccentricities of the Addams family member.

A compelling season of television does not need to feature a viral moment, although having one certainly helps build popularity and widespread appeal. Since season 2 is focusing more on horror than romantic drama, perhaps one of the new horror elements could rival season 1’s dance scene. Even without a new dance, Wednesday season 2 remains one of Netflix’s most exciting upcoming projects.
