What Meghan Markle’s Netflix Deal Ending Means for Her Series, With Love, Meghan

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix $100 million multi-year contract won’t be renewed, yet future projects with the streamer remain possible

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s multi-year Netflix deal won’t be renewed, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the Duke and Duchess on the streaming service.

On July 23, The Sun reported that the couple’s five-year, $100 million Netflix deal will not be renewed when it expires this September.

A Hollywood insider confirmed to PEOPLE that the multi-year production agreement won’t be extended, reflecting a broader shift in Netflix’s business strategy.

Netflix has been moving away from large, multi-project agreements like this one. A similar evolution happened with former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground production company, whose initial multi-year deal transitioned into a first-look agreement.

PEOPLE reached out to representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Netflix for comment.

“There’s no animosity from either side,” a source told The Sun. “Things have just run their course.”

Despite this, season two of Meghan’s lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, has already been filmed and is set to premiere this fall. The possibility of a third season is unknown, but the end of their current contract doesn’t rule out future seasons of the show or other projects from the couple.

In 2022, Meghan, 43, and Harry, 40, made history with their docuseries Harry & Meghan, which remains Netflix’s most-watched documentary debut. This success was followed by the launch of With Love, Meghan, which premiered its first season in March.

Within a week of release, With Love, Meghan ranked tenth on Netflix’s global Top 10 Shows Overview, seventh in the UK, and tenth in the US, amassing 2.6 million views and 12.6 million hours watched. Shortly after the premiere, Meghan revealed that season two had already been shot and is expected to arrive this fall.

According to Netflix’s latest Engagement Report, released on July 17 and covering the first half of 2025, the series ranked at No. 383 with 5.3 million views.

As for what comes next, the conclusion of Meghan and Harry’s Netflix deal doesn’t close the door on additional seasons. “[Netflix is] not unhappy with how things turned out,” a source told The Sun, leaving open the possibility of future collaborations.

With Love, Meghan is filmed in Montecito, California, where Meghan and Harry live with their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4. The series features Meghan inviting famous friends and foodies like Mindy Kaling, Roy Choi and Alice Waters into the kitchen with her as she shares recipes and entertaining tips.

In an interview with PEOPLE for a March cover story, Meghan said simply, “The series is about doing what you can do, and doing it with love.”

Season 2 will feature a new group of A-listers. Chrissy Teigen and José Andrés were the first to be announced earlier this year.

“We love José so much,” Meghan said as she revealed the upcoming appearance at the TIME100 Summit in April. “I’ve been fortunate to have the people that I want on the show… I’ve been really lucky. We have a great, great lineup.”

Michael Steed returned as director for season 2 of With Love, Meghan, and Meghan continued to serve as executive producer.

While the show wasn’t filmed at the Sussexes’ actual Montecito home, Meghan revealed to PEOPLE earlier this year that her kids have played a special part in the production.

“Archie did the [filming clapboard]! Sweet moments,” she shared. “They would also come with my husband and visit me on-set. I loved that my children were able to watch me working and see the balance of that and understand what Mama does and is working to create and share. It was really special because up until then, they hadn’t seen me at work.”
