The Golden Bachelorette couple Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple got engaged at the end of her season, and they’re now in the same place that The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were when his season ended, but they don’t have to repeat their mistakes. Throughout The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan and Chock shared a very deep connection, which grew even stronger after he returned to her after leaving for a bit because his mother passed away. Their magical Disneyland one-on-one, hometown, Fantasy Suite, and final dates were beautiful, and Joan also loved his interaction with her children.
During The Golden Bachelorette season 1 finale, Joan was so sure about Chock that she broke up with runner-up Guy Gansert before he even had the chance to meet her family. She didn’t feel the need to put him through that when she knew that her heart belonged to Chock. Chock later proposed to Joan, and she happily accepted. They’re now at a crossroads, in the same position that Gerry and Theresa were in at the end of The Golden Bachelor. However, as Joan and Chock move forward with their relationship, they don’t have to be the next Gerry and Theresa, whose relationship ended in disaster.
Joan & Chock Have Already Figured Out Their Living Arrangements
Gerry & Theresa Got Divorced Because Of Logistics

When Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce just three months after their Golden Wedding, they said that they were splitting up because they couldn’t decide where to live because neither of them wanted to leave their family. Gerry is from Hudson, Indiana, while Theresa lives in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. They had discussed possibly relocating to Charleston, South Carolina, but they never did.
Unlike Gerry and Theresa, Joan and Chock already have a plan for how they’ll blend their lives. Joan resides in Rockville, Maryland, while Chock lives in Wichita, Kansas, but they’ve decided to find an apartment in New York City and spend some of their time there. Joan began her season stating that she’d never leave her family, but this is a good compromise that will allow her to keep her home in Maryland, while also establishing something new with Chock in their own space.

In an interview with Us Weekly after the Golden Bachelorette finale, Joan stated that, in the first year, they’ll have to figure out life. She isn’t leaving Maryland, but Chock has obligations in Kansas too. Therefore, they’ll be spending time in both states. However, they’ve also come up with what Joan calls, “this really fun plan because both of us have always dreamed — and we’re finally at this weird stage in life for making this dream come true — that we live in a big city, and, specifically, we’ve always wanted to live in New York. So Chock surprised me and said, ‘I want us to go find a place.'”
Joan added that Chock’s children live on the East Coast, so that made the decision a bit easier. She’s also excited to go to Kansas. As for Chock, he said that he’d never ask Joan to move too far away from her family, including her four adult children, three grandchildren, mother, and mother-in-law. He emphasized that both he and Joan are willing to spend time in each other’s hometowns, and also in New York City. The fact that Joan and Chock have a plan in mind for their living situation is a great sign that it won’t become an issue for them, as it did for Gerry and Theresa.
Joan Only Said ‘I Love You’ To One Man
Gerry Said Those Three Little Words To Three Women

When Gerry narrowed down his Golden Bachelor women to three–Theresa, runner-up Leslie Fhima, and Faith Martin–he made the classic Bachelor franchise mistake of telling all of them that he loved them. Not only that, but he exchanged “I love yous” with Faith in front of her family during her hometown date, and he told Leslie that he thought she was The One.

The Next Golden Bachelor Should Be An Unknown (None Of Joan Vassos’ Suitors Should Be Cast)
The Golden Bachelorette starring Joan Vassos had so many wonderful men, but the next lead of The Golden Bachelor shouldn’t be one of them.
When Gerry broke up with Faith and Leslie, they were understandably devastated and confused because he gave them the impression that he’d be choosing them in the end. These declarations of love had to have made Theresa wonder about Gerry’s intentions. Although she didn’t cite it as a reason for their divorce, it must’ve bothered her that he told two other women that he loved them, and just a little while before he proposed to her. It also made Gerry appear to be insincere, and turned him into, at best, a heartbreaker, and, at worst, a villain.
Fortunately, Joan made a conscious decision not to tell anyone that she loved them until she made her final choice. This was very important because Chock can now feel confident that she only loved him. It’s something that will make their relationship much stronger in the future. Joan even went so far as to say goodbye to Guy before he met her family, so Chock was also the sole man who had that honor. Joan and Chock can begin their relationship after the show without him having any doubts that he’s The One.
Joan & Chock Shouldn’t Be In A Rush To Get Married
The Golden Wedding Ruined Gerry & Theresa’s Relationship

If Joan and Chock want to avoid Gerry and Theresa’s biggest mistake, then they won’t get married right away. Theresa has said that the reason that she and Gerry tied the knot so quickly was that ABC offered to pay for their wedding right away, but they wouldn’t pay later. However, looking back, Theresa felt that she and Gerry didn’t know each other well enough at that point to have gotten married.
