A 27-year-old man has been shot by police at a shopping centre south of Brisbane after allegedly approaching police with a knife.
Logan District Detective Acting Inspector Jason Kitto said police were called to a car park at the Carmody Centre on Ewing Road, near Carmody Street in Logan Central, on Saturday about 6pm, following reports of a man armed with a knife damaging property and making threats.
“There was a vehicle at the incident location and upon arrival that male person was located on top of that vehicle,” he said.
“There is damage to that vehicle as a result.”
Queensland police say officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he approached them with a weapon and was shot in the abdomen.
Police said officers treated the man with first aid before he was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
He remains there under police guard in a critical but stable condition.
A crime scene has been declared.
No-one else was hurt during the incident and there was no ongoing risk to public safety.

Inspector Kitto said he expected the man would be charged.
He described the incident as “tragic circumstances”.
“It’s not something that we hope to turn up to work and be confronted with,” he said.
“Our primary priority is looking after our officers that were involved.”
The Ethical Standards Command is investigating with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
The incident is the third police shooting in Queensland this year.
On March 3, an allegedly armed 21-year-old man was shot in Tingalpa during a welfare check.
The next day, another man was shot after fleeing a crash on the Sunshine Coast, allegedly armed with a gun.
