Netflix’s hit series Wednesday gets an exciting season 2 update. The first season followed Wednesday (Jenna Ortega), the sole daughter of the Addams Family, as she gets used to her newfound supernatural abilities while attending Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts. It debuted to instant success, spending 20 weeks on Netflix’s Global Top Ten and earning 12 nominations at the Emmy Awards. Wednesday season 2 has been in development since shortly after the show’s debut and is expected to premiere in 2025.
Speaking with Screen Rant, stunt coordinator and action unit director Vic Armstrong gave a promising update regarding Wednesday’s second season. Armstrong revealed that he and the creative team behind the series are two-thirds of the way through and are having fun with the process. He then spoke about Wednesday director and executive producer Tim Burton’s amazing character and celebrated Burton’s success with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Read his statement below:
We’re great. We’re two-thirds of the way through, and having a great time. It’s terrific. It’s fabulous to work with Tim, he’s an amazing character, and I’m thrilled to see Beetlejuice looks like maybe going over $100 million. It’s a good-looking film, brilliant. Everything is driven by the script, and I think they finished on a high note on the last one, the bar was pretty high. Then, we had to come in and still leave ourselves somewhere to go with the bar with this one.
What This Means For Wednesday Season 2
Wednesday Is On Track For A 2025 Return
It’s pleasing to see that Wednesday season 2 is progressing with very little trouble. It was quickly greenlit — news of the show’s renewal came in January 2023, a mere two months after season 1’s November 2022 premiere — and started production in Ireland this May. The fact that the creative team is already two-thirds of the way through strongly suggests that they’re on schedule for season 2’s 2025 debut.
There’s a lot of excitement when it comes to Wednesday season 2. The show was such a success in terms of both filmmaking and performances, especially from Ortega and breakout star Emma Myers, who plays Wednesday’s scene-stealing roommate and, while Wednesday won’t say it directly, best friend Enid Sinclair. They will both return for season 2, and so will other cast members from Wednesday season 1, such as Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley). Newcomers to the show include Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, and Christopher Lloyd.
Our Take On Wednesday Season 2’s Progress
What has been revealed about Wednesday season 2 so far suggests it could be even better than the first. Ortega’s continuous involvement in her character’s development is promising. It could be argued that Wednesday is taking a long time to return, since season 1 premiered in 2022. However, this update and others that came before confirm the team is taking the necessary caution required to make a successful sophomore season. While little is known about the plot, Wednesday seems to be gearing up for a triumphant return when it arrives in 2025.
