The tragic twist will leave viewers reaching for the tissues.

Netflix has unveiled its first trailer for an upcoming film that romantic comedy fans won’t want to miss, but be warned it features a rather devastating twist.

Subscribers are declaring the rom-com genre is officially back after witnessing the first-look at the new film, arriving to screens on Friday, 19th June.

Voicemails for Isabelle stars two rom-com icons, Zoey Deutch (Set It Up) and Nick Robinson (Love, Simon), as two strangers who become linked by a tragic loss.

However, Jill is completely unaware that her sister’s phone has actually been reassigned to stranger Wes (Robinson), an estate agent based in Austin who begins to feel conflicted over whether or not to make himself known.

The trailer released this week teases an epic yet complicated romance that promises to sweep viewers off their feet as Jill and Wes eventually meet and become friends while struggling to come to terms with their growing feelings for each other.

While Wes’s friend Andy (Harry Shum Jr.) describes the premise as a “sick reboot of You’ve Got Mail”, the trailer has already amassed hundreds of thousands of views from fans who are convinced they might have glimpsed the rom-com of the year.

One X user exclaimed: “I can’t explain how sat I am, this is clearly a new classic for those with eyes to see.”

“With this and Finding Emily on the horizon, it feels like fun rom-coms are back on the menu this summer,” someone else agreed.

“Nick Robinson finally back in rom coms oh my god we’re so back,” another fan said.

Over on YouTube, one user compared it to another rom-com sensation, writing: “First Off Campus, now this romance is BACK.” While a final fan admitted “No I’m crying already” with a tearful emoji for good measure.

Along with the two leads, Voicemails for Isabelle also stars Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Spencer Lord (The Last of Us), Tanis Dolman (Fire Country), and Gil Bellows (Chucky).

It was written and directed by actress and filmmaker Leah McKendrick, who made her directorial debut with the 2023 film Scrambled starring Saturday Night Live’s Ego Nwodim.
