Both Prince William and Princess Anne headed to a memorial service on Wednesday morning, as they paid their respects to the late Dame Shân Legge-Bourke
he Prince of Wales quietly joined Princess Anne and the Duchess of Edinburgh at a memorial service on Wednesday morning.
William, 43, was seen arriving at Brecon Cathedral to remember former lady-in-waiting Dame Shân Legge-Bourke. He was joined by the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Edinburgh, according to local paper Brecon & Radnor Express.
The royals arrived and departed by helicopter from Christ College in Brecon, the paper reported, before travelling to the cathedral via police escort. One local wrote on social media afterwards: “Nice to see Prince William and Duchess Sophie this morning, even got a wave.”
The Dame, who died at the age of 82 in December, was the mother to Prince William and Harry’s nanny, Tiggy Pettifer, and often hosted the young princes at her Glanusk estate in Wales. Tiggy is even godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie, so Dame Shan was once a strong presence in the Duke of Sussex’s life.
Dame Shan Legge-Bourke’s death – paying tribute
The Dame was once the lady in waiting for Princess Anne and was also known to be close to Queen Camilla. Announcing her passing in an Instagram post back in December, her family said they were “devastated” by her loss.

In their tribute, they wrote: “She was an inspiration to us all, and to many people she met over her years of service to Wales, and the countless organisations and institutions she supported.”
They added: “A country girl at heart, she has left an indelible legacy at Glanusk, the wider countryside and beyond.”
Recent family tragedy
The Legge-Bourke family also endured another sad loss recently, as Tiggy’s stepson, Edward Pettifer, was among the victims of the 2025 New Orleans truck attack that took place on New Year’s Day.

Edward’s family released a statement following his death that read: “The entire family are devastated at the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and a friend to so many.
“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their family members due to this terrible attack. We request that we can grieve the loss of Ed as a family in private. Thank you.”
