Rich Homie Quan Posthumously Appears In Tear-Jerking ‘Song Cry’ Music Video

The Atlanta rapper died unexpectedly in his home in Atlanta earlier this month.

After Rich Homie Quan died at age 33 on Sept. 5, his friends, family and the hip-hop community are still in mourning.

The song was previously shared during Quan’s funeral, and now the rapper’s team and family have released a music video for his posthumous single “Song Cry.” Rich Homie Quan had already started shooting the video, directed by MarcellJB, before he died, so there are scenes of him partying and in the studio mixed in with more somber moments from his funeral, which was livestreamed from World Changers Church International in College Park, Georgia.

Footage of Boosie Badazz and D.C. Young Fly can be seen, as well as behind-the-scenes video of Quan’s interview with Funny Marco. The video ends with his family and friends rapping his songs at a party following his funeral service.

The chorus to the song is gut-wrenching, considering how young the rapper was when he died. “I had to put on dark shades to hide these tears/ And I don’t pop on the ‘Gram ’cause that how guys get killed/ I bought me a mirror last week so I can face my fears/ This lifestyle I live real, I can’t fake this here,” he raps in the cadence that made him a star.

Sept. 17 — the day he was put to rest — is now Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day in Atlanta.

Rich Homie Quan’s cause of death has yet to be revealed. The Fulton County medical examiner performed an autopasy the day after he died but said further tests are needed. “The cause and manner of death are pending the completion of laboratory studies and microscopic examination of tissue slides,” the examiner told 11Alive.
