A stunt-double for Chase Stokes, star of the hit Netflix TV show Outer Banks, has been killed in a hit-and-run while walking along a highway in South Carolina.

Alexander ‘AJ’ Jennings, 22, was struck by two cars in Charleston in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Both vehicles that hit Jennings fled the scene. He passed away from his injuries shortly after the accident about about 3:13am.

Jennings had been walking along a main road between James Island and Folly Beach when he was first hit at about 2am.

The first vehicle that struck him did not stop. Any chance that he might have stood a chance of surviving were ended when he was hit by a second vehicle that also sped off.

The driver was later pulled over in a traffic stop, reports TMZ.

Paramedics attempted to save his life and transported him to Medical University of South Carolina, but he later died from his injuries.

Jennings was working on Outer Banks as a photo double and was stand-in for John B  who is the main character of the show, played by Stokes.

AJ appeared to be friendly with much of the cast on the production, not least Stokes whom he was working alongside.

‘Still trying to process why certain things happen, and why the world works in the ways that it does. My heart is shattered. Your life was just starting. We JUST talked about how pumped you were about your tunes, how far you’d come with that ole 6 string and your want to keep creating art. Always always making others hearts warm and being so damn selfless.’ Stokes wrote in a heartfelt message.

Stokes, 29, continued, ‘I wish I had more words to say right now, but the past day has been a struggle to say the least.’

‘We all love you, you touched all of our lives and made us all better people, and for that – Thank you AJ. Fly high angel’ he concluded.

Another heartfelt tribute was made by Jenning’s agent.

‘It is with great sadness that I share on Tuesday Alexander ‘AJ’ Jennings’ mother informed me of his tragic death. AJ was a beautiful, kind soul & a bright light every day on set. He moved to Charleston from New York to work as our John B photo double/stand in this season,’ wrote Kimmie Stewart Casting.

‘I cannot fathom the shock and tragedy of AJ’s sudden loss and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. I understand this message may be difficult to process for those of you that met & became fast friends with AJ,’

Filming for season 3 of Outer Banks began earlier this year on location in Charleston.

The show follows a group of North Carolina teens as they come across a treasure map that allows them to uncover a number of alarming small-town secrets.

The show was an instant hit when season 1 premiered in April 2020. The second season came out last July.

In December, Netflix revealed the show would return for a third season which began filming in February.
