Prince George’s prospective school ‘beefs up’ security in case of enrolment – report

According to a new report, a £63k/year prospective school for Prince George is increasing its security measures – get all the details

rince George‘s next school is a source of curiosity for royal followers, but a new report in the Mail on Sunday is attempting to set the record straight. According to the newspaper, the 12-year-old son of the Prince and Princess of Wales is set to enrol in Eton College once he graduates from Lambrook School in July.

It was reported on 5 April that “certain rooms at Eton are being revamped with beefed-up security in preparation for George’s arrival later this year.” Eton College in Berkshire is a private boarding school for boys aged 13 to 18.

A break from tradition

The institution, which charges approximately £63,000 per year, is where George’s father, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry, attended. William broke with tradition when he enrolled there in 1995, with his father, King Charles, having been a pupil at Gordonstoun, a boarding school in Scotland.

That said, Princess Diana‘s brother and father both attended Eton. The security of a prince during school hours is of the utmost importance to the royal family.

During his time at Eton, William was largely protected from the press and there are limited photos of him at the college. The chairman of the Press Complaints Commission, John Wakeham, said of the agreement, “Prince William is not an institution; nor a soap star; nor a football hero. He is a boy: in the next few years, perhaps the most important and sometimes painful part of his life, he will grow up and become a man.”

Where will Prince George go for secondary school?

While Eton is rumoured to be a likely choice for George, it is reportedly not the only school on William and Kate’s radar. His mother’s alma mater, Marlborough College in Wiltshire, is also said to be an option.

In a March episode of HELLO!‘s A Right Royal Podcast, Melanie Sanderson, managing editor of The Good Schools Guide, explained that the royal couple could very well be holding multiple places as they consider their options.

“For ordinary people, they have to say ‘yes’ fairly quickly so their children would be accepted. Ordinary people who have been offered places would be accepting those places for secondary schools in the next few weeks,” Melanie said, adding that she suspects “the normal rules possibly don’t apply” for the royals.

She added: “I feel as though the Waleses may be holding multiple places at different schools. It sort of feels as though if they had made a definitive decision, somebody would know and it would be out there.”
