Sharon Osbourne made a heartbreaking gesture to the crowd gathered on the streets of Birmingham to remember her beloved husband Ozzy Osbourne following his sad death last week

Sharon Osbourne made an emotional gesture to the crowd who had gathered to remember Ozzy Osbourne. The Black Sabbath singer died last week, as paramedics fought for two hours to save him.

Many fans had packed out Broad Street in Birmingham to pay tribute to Ozzy. Sharon and the family had funded the security and other costs for a special procession to mark Ozzy’s incredible life.

The family stopped to look at the tributes left at Black Sabbath bridge and bench, with Sharon, Kelly, Aimee and Jack amongst other family members stepping out their cars to pay tribute to Ozzy. It comes as Ozzy’s true bond with Birmingham became evident as the procession was carried out through his home city.

Sharon made a gesture to fans

Sharon broke down as she laid a black rose on top of the tributes and she was supported by the devastated family. The crowds screamed ‘Sharon we love you’. She later turned to the crowd and made a peace gesture to them, thanking them for coming to pay tribute to the Prince of Darkness.

Ozzy’s family announced he had died in a heartbreaking statement on Tuesday, just over two weeks after the Back To The Beginning show at Villa Park, which was attended by thousands.

The statement said: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

In the months leading up to his death, Sharon did everything to get Ozzy back home to Birmingham and in front of fans one more time. Insurance was going to be astronomical but Sharon managed to sort it out.

“It is heartbreaking to think about the stress that Ozzy and Sharon went through in those last few weeks. Ozzy had worked his a** off to get himself to a place where he could at least stand up and wave to fans. But for shows of that magnitude, if the artists do not meet the insurers’ satisfaction of risk liability then the show doesn’t go ahead,” a source told us.

“With the Parkinson’s and the walking issues, no insurance agent would agree to let Oz stand. So to overcome that, and not have a huge insurance premium on the charity show, they secured a deal to have him safely locked in his throne.”

The insider added: “It was a brilliant compromise. It really speaks so much to Sharon’s drive and focus to get it all pulled off, because of the liability issues. She was a miracle worker.”

After the gig, Sabbath band mate Tommy Iommi explained it was all touch and go about the performance.

Tommy admitted: “It was making it up as we went on really. It was really a case of how long Ozzy could do it really. Because we didn’t know with him doing his own set, which I said to him, I didn’t think he should do because I didn’t want him to get burned out by the time he’d come with us. But he didn’t and he did his own set. We ended up doing four songs but we had put aside sort of six or seven. But it worked out that we did four, so that was fine.”
