The brutal gangster saga MobLand may have taken the streaming world by storm, pulling in a staggering 2.2 million global viewers on release, but its reign could soon face serious competition.
That’s because acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie is returning with a brand-new series that already has crime-drama fans buzzing.
Introducing Young Sherlock, an explosive new mystery series arriving on Amazon Prime Video, where the legendary detective is reimagined in a bold and unpredictable way.
This time, the focus isn’t on the world-famous master sleuth audiences know so well. Instead, the story dives into the chaotic early life of Sherlock Holmes — long before he became the brilliant investigator created by Arthur Conan Doyle.
A Young Sherlock Caught in a Deadly Mystery
Inspired by the popular novels by Andy Lane, the eight-part series explores the origin story of the iconic detective.
At just 19 years old, Sherlock is far from the composed genius the world eventually comes to know.
Instead, he is raw, reckless, and still discovering his extraordinary mind.
Played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, this younger version of Sherlock suddenly finds himself entangled in a shocking murder case at Oxford University — one that threatens not only his reputation, but his freedom.
According to the official synopsis, Sherlock dives into his very first investigation with little discipline and plenty of chaos, slowly uncovering a dangerous conspiracy that stretches far beyond the university walls.

The case soon spirals into a globe-spanning mystery that will shape the detective’s destiny forever.
A Cast Packed With Familiar Faces
Alongside Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the title role, the series boasts an impressive cast led by Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth.
Firth — beloved by many as the iconic Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice — takes on the role of Sir Bucephalus Hodge, a mysterious figure who plays a crucial role in the young detective’s journey.
The ensemble cast also includes:
Zine Tseng as Princess Gulun Shou’an
Joseph Fiennes as Sherlock’s father
Natascha McElhone as Sherlock’s mother
With such a strong lineup, the series already has all the ingredients of a major streaming hit.
Guy Ritchie Returns to the World of Sherlock
This isn’t Guy Ritchie’s first time exploring the legendary detective.
The director previously brought a stylish, action-packed take on the character to the big screen with the films Sherlock Holmes (2009 film) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
But Young Sherlock promises something entirely different.
Instead of focusing on the confident genius audiences know, Ritchie says the new series will “crack open the character” to reveal the messy, unpredictable origins of Sherlock’s brilliance.
“We’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know,” Ritchie explained. “We’ll discover what makes him tick and how he becomes the genius we all love.”
When Can You Watch It?
Crime-drama fans won’t have to wait long.
Young Sherlock arrives on Amazon Prime Video on March 4, launching an eight-episode season that promises mystery, action, and plenty of twists.
And while MobLand may have dominated the streaming charts for now, many viewers are already predicting that this new detective drama could become the platform’s next massive obsession.
If early buzz is anything to go by, audiences might soon be saying the same thing:
The game is afoot… and a new Sherlock has arrived.
