Latto had a special Halloween surprise for her Brooklyn audience — not candy or ghosts or ghouls, but a true BK legend, Lil Kim.
The Georgia rapper brought her Sugar Honey Iced Tea Tour to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Tuesday (October 31), in a show that began with Mariah The Scientist performing just hours after her boyfriend Young Thug was freed in a surprise plea deal in his long-running racketeering trial.
But that wasn’t even the most shocking moment of the night. Latto brought out two major New York City favorites as surprise guests: A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Kim.
The latter, per Billboard, performed “Crush on You” and proclaimed Latto “the fucking truth.”
“Brooklyn, we got one right here! You the GOAT baby,” Kim proclaimed.
You can see video of Kim’s performance below, shared by Zach Simmons.
Launched in September, the challenge invited fans to make videos dancing to the rapper’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea cut “Brokey.” One of those fans was a woman named Yadira Ramirez, who shared her submission from her job at Waffle House that included five other employees participating in the clip as well.
Her video soon went viral, but was unfortunately met with consequences, as she shared another post two days later revealing that she’d been fired and placed on the “unable to rehire” list – despite her six-year tenure.
Catching wind of the situation, Latto not only linked up with Yadira, but she also gifted her with a cool $10k.
“My Niece @ofyadira has had quite a week,” the woman’s aunt wrote in a post to Instagram recapping all of the moments. “From having fun at her job, being fired, to winning 10k from @latto. I mean you can’t make this stuff up. Time for the next level.”
The “Brokey” Challenge came about when “Brokey” received some criticism from people who thought it poked fun at hard-working folks with not-exactly-well-paying jobs.
The rapper got wind of the criticism and tweeted: “I hate that y’all think I was calling hard workers brokeys [broken heart emoji] so I got $10k for whoever make the best video at they job to brokey & I’ll fly u out to be in the music video.”
