The Umbrella Academy focused on many characters, and though it tried to give them equal screen time (for the most part) and explore their dynamics, Elliot Page is right in wishing two characters had more screen time together. The Umbrella Academy is one of Netflix’s most popular and beloved TV shows in recent years, and after three seasons of shocking twists and reveals, it ended with its fourth season. The Umbrella Academy’s final season solved many mysteries but also left a couple of questions and complaints, as it felt rushed as it was the show’s shortest season.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 caught up with the Hargreeves and Lila six years after the ending of season 3, as they all moved on with their lives now that they were powerless. However, a rescue mission led them to regain their powers, reconnect with Reginald, and learn the shocking truth about the incoming apocalypse and their role in the multiverse. As mentioned above, season 4 was the shortest one, so some characters didn’t get to interact much, and Elliot Page is absolutely right in wishing Viktor had shared more screen time with one of his siblings.

With seven main characters, important secondary ones, and a lot happening around them, it’s not surprising that The Umbrella Academy fell short when it comes to the interactions between some of the Hargreeves – and a shorter final season didn’t make this any better. Speaking to The Wrap about who they would have liked to have more screen time with, Elliot Page said he would have liked to have more scenes with David Castañeda and for Viktor and Diego to have more “intense scenes” together. Castañeda agreed with it, adding that there could have been “a lot of heartstrings being pulled”.

The one who was the rudest and meanest to Viktor in season 1 was Diego.

At the beginning of The Umbrella Academy, the Hargreeves had been apart for years and didn’t quite get along, especially with Viktor. Number 7 had written a book about his life as one of the children of Reginald Hargreeves and being left out of the Umbrella Academy team, which most of his siblings didn’t appreciate. However, the one who was the rudest and meanest to Viktor in season 1 was Diego, and though by the end of The Umbrella Academy everyone got along well, Diego and Viktor didn’t get time together after season 1.

Diego also had a complex relationship with Luther, as they constantly fought over the leadership of the team, but they made amends in season 4 (though in a deleted scene). Diego didn’t really get to apologize to Viktor, but Luther and Allison had their chance to make things right with their brother. Castañeda is right in saying that more Diego and Viktor would have pulled a lot of heartstrings, and it would have greatly benefited both characters.

The Umbrella Academy Quickly Forgot About How Badly Viktor Was Treated

All the Hargreeves had a lot of trauma due to how Reginald raised them and how horrible he was as a father, but Viktor’s was quickly forgotten. Viktor’s trauma was at the core of The Umbrella Academy season 1, as the reveal of his powers was what triggered the apocalypse, and though he once more almost ended the world in season 2, the show later set all his hurtful past aside.

While this is understandable due to all the things happening in The Umbrella Academy, it’s unfair to Viktor, a character who grew a lot as a person and a superhero. Surely, the version of Reginald in season 4 apologized to Viktor for how his version of him treated him and assured him that he’s special, which gave closure to Viktor but doesn’t make up for how past seasons failed Number 7.
