The body of a 65-year-old man who went missing in Victoria’s northwest is believed to have been found, with police treating the death as “suspicious”.

Richard, 65, was last seen on Hughs St in Ouyen about 8am on Easter Sunday, sparking a major search for the man.

Police believe he was later seen driving on the Mallee Highway, and said the man’s disappearance was “extremely out of character”.

The body of a man was found east of Ouyen about 1.30pm on Tuesday.

While the remains are yet to be formally identified, police believe they may be of the missing man.

Police are treating the man’s death as suspicious.

Mildura Police inspector Dave Rowe told the ABC the man’s phone and ute were found at the property alongside the remains.

“Further forensic work will be conducted at that property today by the forensic unit based in Melbourne, who are already at the scene,” he explained.

Major crime detectives have launched an investigation into the man’s death.
