Meghan Markle spoke at an Oprah Winfrey book club session last night in California where Prince Harry’s controversial memoir Spare was proudly on display.

The Duchess, 43, was one of several speakers to address the crowd at Godmothers bookstore and gathering space in Summerland, located just a few miles from where she lives in Montecito with the Sussex family.

The star-studded event was attended by Marco Leone, Dr Jennifer Freed, and author and psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson.

The move came on the eve of the second anniversary of the late Queen’s death.

King Charles and other members of the Royal Family have chosen today to mark the late Queen’s passing with quiet prayer and reflection.

Godmothers, co-owned by literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, celebrated its grand opening weekend by hosting a number of “conversations” with authors and celebrities.

The bookstore sells a number of celebrity books including Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, which can be found on the store’s “hometown heroes” shelf.

While promoting the store, Walsh put Harry’s memoir on display with a collection of books penned by local writers.

“This is our local author’s shelf when you first walk in,” she said. “I want it to be when you first walk in so that authors who are local to the area know that this is their hometown bookstore.

“And we celebrate our hometown authors as if they were our hometown heroes, because to us they are.”

Meghan appeared at the event last night just hours before the second anniversary of the late Queen Elizabeth’s death.

It is not known what the Duchess said during the session as it was held behind closed doors.

The move came as King Charles today marked the second anniversary of his mother’s death at Crathie Kirk near the late monarch’s beloved Balmoral estate.

The monarch, 75, and his wife Queen Camilla were driven up to the church for Sunday service this afternoon.

The King donned a charcoal grey suit, teamed with a black and burgundy tie, while Queen Camilla, 77, wore a red and green tartan ensemble, complete with a matching hat.

Their Majesties are keen to mark the late Queen’s passing in private reflection and prayers. No other formal remembrance plans are in place for the day – as per convention.
