Angel Reese has received plenty of criticism for her offensive struggles in 2025, but the Chicago Sky star got one over her trolls just days after clashing with Connecticut Sun players

Angel Reese hit back against her critics and flexed her entrepreneurial muscle by trademarking the term ‘Mebounds. After Reese competed with Caitlin Clark to win Rookie of the Year honors before suffering a wrist injury, anticipation was high for her sophomore season. But the 23-year-old has struggled offensively, opening the door for trolls to pick away at her game online.

Despite leading the league with 11.9 rebounds per game, Reese is averaging 10.4 points per game on just 35.7 percent shooting from the floor. She has been seen to miss lay-ups before grabbing the rebound, leading to fans creating the term.

However, Reese has decided to respond to her online haters by getting the last laugh and lining her pockets. She has officially filed a trademark for the term ‘Mebounds’ in her home state of Maryland.

Reese has been criticized immensely, but she remains a quality player. Her hustle, motor, and dominance on the glass are traits that cannot be taught, and she has the tools to become the greatest rebounder in league history amid her impressive start to life in the WNBA.

Reese was in the news as soon as the 2025 WNBA season tipped off. She had to be restrained after Clark knocked her to the floor at the end of the third quarter in the Sky’s opening-day loss to the Indiana Fever.

The former LSU star’s physical style of play led to another confrontation with Connecticut Sun players on Sunday night. Reese was furious when she went up to grab a rebound, only for Connecticut’s Bria Hartley to yank her back by her hair.

To her credit, Hartley appeared to apologize and suggested the hair pull was accidental, but Reese fumed when Olivia Nelson-Ododa stepped in to separate the pair. Nelson-Ododa put an arm on her opponent’s midsection, and Reese shoved her away as tensions threatened to spill over.

Ultimately, Reese and the Sky secured a 78-66 victory. Reese enjoyed a stellar performance, too, tallying a triple-double with 11 points, 11 assists, and 13 rebounds.

Reese’s trademark decision ensures she stays winning off the court.

Reese beat out Olympic icon Simone Biles and French Open winner Coco Gauff to win ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ at the 2025 BET Awards last week.

Reese was picked ahead of other nominees from the world of basketball, including A’ja Wilson, Flau’jae Johnson, Dawn Staley, and Juju Watkins. It’s the third consecutive year that the Sky forward has won the award; Serena Williams (16 times) and Naomi Osaka (twice) are the only other multi-time winners.

Reese’s 3-7 Sky are next in action against the 4-7 Washington Mystics on Tuesday, June 17.
