The body of a New York woman has been found over a month after she was last seen on foot.
The Suffolk County Police Department said that police responded to a 911 call on Monday, April 13, about a body floating in the Long Island Sound off Lloyd Harbor Road. The body was later identified as belonging to Brittany Kritis-Garip, 32, of Oyster Bay.
Investigators said her death appeared to be non-criminal in nature, but that a medical examiner will determine her cause of death.
Kritis-Garip disappeared on March 20 and was “last seen in Oyster Bay on foot,” the Nassau County Police Department said in a previous press release.
Fernando Garip, her husband, told News 12 Long Island that before she vanished, his wife jumped out of a moving car and threw her phone into a bush, then ran away in a panicked state.
“We’ve been combing wooded areas, rural areas, suburban areas, everything,” Garip said at the time. “We’re going to be at this until she’s home. I don’t care what we have to do, what needs to be done.”
A GoFundMe was also created to help fund search efforts.
Niko Kritis-Garip, Brittany’s brother, also confirmed the death of his sister in a Facebook group post, Patch reported.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Brittany has been found and has passed,” he wrote. “We take comfort in knowing that God has called her into His care, and that she is now at peace.”

“Brittany was, and will always be, a light in the lives of everyone she met. Her warmth, kindness, and spirit left a lasting mark on so many people. That light does not disappear—it lives on in all of us who knew and loved her,” he continued.
“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support throughout this search. From prayers and messages to the countless people who gave their time, energy, and resources to help bring Brittany home—thank you,” Nike added. “The visibility, care, and compassion shown by this community meant more than we can fully express.”
