In a heartbreaking development, Rute Cardoso, the wife of Liverpool star Diogo Jota, was seen leaving the funeral home in tears alongside their three young children. The family gathered for the emotional ceremony in Gondomar, near Porto, on Saturday morning, as they laid the footballer and his brother, Andre Silva, to rest after their tragic deaths.

The somber event followed a private wake on Friday evening at the Capela da Ressurreicao, where family, friends, and teammates from both Jota’s national team and Liverpool FC paid their respects. The footballer and his brother were killed in a horrific car accident when the Lamborghini they were traveling in veered off the road and burst into flames after what is believed to have been a tyre blowout. The tragic incident occurred on the A-52 in Palacios de Sanabria near the city of Zamora, at around 12:40am on Thursday morning.
The loss of Diogo Jota, a beloved father of three and a passionate player for both club and country, has sent shockwaves through the football world. His wife Rute and their three children, who had only recently celebrated their family’s joyful moment when Jota married Rute just 11 days ago, are now faced with an immense personal tragedy.
As Rute and the children left the funeral home, their grief was evident, as they were supported by close family members. The scene was a poignant reminder of the deep pain and loss felt by those closest to Jota during this unimaginable time.
Reports indicate that Jota’s Liverpool teammates and national team colleagues, many of whom are still on summer holiday, were expected to attend the funeral, with a private flight chartered by the UK club to bring them to Portugal. However, the club has yet to confirm the final arrangements for the players’ attendance.
As tributes continue to pour in from fans and fellow footballers alike, the heartbreaking images of Rute and her young children leaving the funeral home have left the world mourning the loss of a footballing talent and a beloved family man. Our thoughts remain with Rute, her children, and the extended family as they navigate this devastating loss.
