Princess Kate will take a starring role in a state visit next week as the King and Queen welcome President Emmanuel Macron of France to the UK. The Princess of Wales, 43, will accompany her husband Prince William, 43, to greet the French leader and his wife Brigitte Macron when they land in London on Tuesday.

The couple will then travel by car with Emmanuel and Brigitte to Windsor Castle. Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will then formally welcome the couple on a Royal Dias at Datchet Road, not far from the castle, where a Royal Salute will be fired.

On arrival in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle, a Guard of Honour will give a Royal Salute and the regimental band will play the French and British National Anthems in front of the royal party, the French President and his wife.

The King and Mr Macron will then inspect the Guard of Honour before rejoining The Queen and Mrs Macron, where alongside Prince William and Princess Kate they will view the military rank and marchpast.

Once this is over, a private lunch will be held in the State Dining Room of Windsor Castle, before further engagements are carried out.

While most state visits are held at Buckingham Palace, this visit is being held at Windsor as a result of Buckingham Palace’s ongoing refurbishment works.

This is likely to be convenient for Prince William and Princess Kate, who live close by at Adelaide Cottage – a stone’s throw away from the castle.

Kate’s presence at the state visit will no doubt delight royal fans as the princess continues her gradual return to work following her cancer treatment last year.

The future Queen last took part in a state visit in December, where she played a key role in some aspects of the Qatar state visit.

Despite being present during some of the daytime engagements, Kate did not attend the state banquet, which her husband William was present at.
