During an emotional celebration of life service for rapper Rich Homie Quan, his father, Corey Lamar, gave a moving tribute, reflecting on their deep bond and the heartbreak of his loss.
The “Lifestyle” rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died earlier this month after being found unresponsive.
Quan’s father recounted the tragic day he learned of his passing, explaining how he rushed to his son’s home after receiving the devastating call.
“I was shaken. I was scared, but I was also praying,” Lamar said, describing the overwhelming emotions that consumed him as he arrived at his son’s home. “When I got there, they were bringing Quan out of the house, and I asked if I could ride with them. They said, no, you can’t ride.”
He then recalled the moment he was told his son had passed. “I got the confirmation that my son had transitioned. Not only my son, but my best friend,” he shared.
Lamar spoke about the strong connection he had with his son, reflecting on how growing up without his own father made him even more committed to being present in Quan’s life.
Fighting back tears, Lamar revealed the depth of his grief over his son’s tragic passing.
“The pain that I feel right now is unimaginable, man. I feel as though I’ve been broken into a million pieces,” he admitted. Yet, through his sorrow, Lamar said he found solace in his faith. “But I know a man that will put me back together, one piece at a time.”
He closed his heartfelt tribute with a request to his son, who he says is now looking down on him from heaven: “If you don’t mind, save a spot for me.”
