GB News reported that King Charles’s upcoming US state visit could be postponed amid President Donald Trump’s involvement in the Middle East conflict. Following Trump and his wife, Melania’s official three-day visit to Windsor Castle in 2025, King Charles and Queen Camilla were expected to return the favour with a trip to Washington, DC, and New York to commemorate 250 years of American independence, but the plans remain uncertain. The Mail on Sunday’s editor Charlotte Griffiths joined GB News presenters Stephen Dixon and Ellie Costello to reveal that there’s “still back and forth.”

She added: “Some papers one day will say it’s definitely going ahead and other papers say it’s not … back in February, there was apparently a ‘wobble’ about whether or not it should go ahead.” Addressing the US and Israel conflict in Iran, Charlotte highlighted: “It would be highly difficult for the King … it would look like he’s endorsing the war at this point.”

The journalist continued: “I would have to guess, but I think his [King Charles] personal opinion is that he would probably rather delay it.”

To which Ellie questioned: “If he wasn’t to go, wouldn’t that look like a huge snub to our biggest ally?”

“It would look like a huge snub,” Charlotte agreed. “One way they could get around it is, Trump’s obviously very busy, I think he’s cancelled his China visit, so he could just say ‘I’m too busy and let’s postpone it.'”

“If they couched it as a postponement, not a snub, ‘we’ll do it in the future,’ and that date never comes, I think that would probably be quite diplomatically good all round.”

Although the offical oversees tour has yet to be announced, Trump has recently confirmed the visit would go ahead and said that the monarch is coming to see him “very shortly,” adding that he was “looking forward” to meeting him.

Mr Trump, who hosted Taoiseach Micheal Martin in the Oval Office on St Patrick’s Day, told reporters: “I do look forward to seeing the King. He’s going to be coming, as you know, very shortly.”

In addition to his involvement in the Middle East conflict, the US leader’s clash with Prime Minister Keir Starmer has also prompted calls to postpone King Charles’s visit.

This comes after the 79-year-old previously branded the UK’s approach to the conflict “terrible” and repeatedly lashed out at Sir Keir, including describing him as “not Winston Churchill”, straining the special relationship between the two allies.

As the Prime Minister insisted that the UK will not be drawn into a “wider war”.
