Yella Beezy, sits at the epicenter of a burgeoning legal and financial maelstrom, as the serious charges tied to the purported 2020 murder-for-hire plot against fellow rapper Mo3. As the courtroom wars have been dramatic enough, recent allegations by longtime collaborator and friend Trapboy Freddy have added a very human and emotionally charged element to the narrative—and one that paints Beezy as a man who’s lost almost all in his battle for his liberty.

Yella Beezy became popular in the late 2010s with hit songs such as “That’s On Me” and “Bacc At It Again“, establishing a niche in the Southern hip-hop world with his street savvy lyrics and assertive style. Now the artist’s career hits one of the toughest setbacks.

In March of 2025, Beezy was officially indicted for capital murder in relation to the murder of Mo3, another Dallas-area rapper who was shot and killed in broad daylight on a Texas freeway in November 2020. Prosecutors accuse Beezy of playing a part in staging the assault, but the extent of his involvement is still subject to legal review.

When Beezy was arrested, his bond was set at a steep $2 million—a charge that would be staggering for all but the richest among them, including those in the entertainment business. At a hearing in court, the prosecutors used Beezy’s prior exhibitions of wealth, such as a bulletproof car, a lavish mansion, and considerable monetary transactions, including large cash withdrawals.

At her insistence, the judge lowered the bond to $750,000—a significant decrease but still a large amount to raise on short notice.

It was after this that fellow rapper Trapboy Freddy, who’s also based in Dallas and a close friend of Beezy, hit the headlines himself. During an interview spotlighted by hip-hop news website No Jumper,

Freddy asserted Beezy had sold all his assets in order to raise the money for bond and legal defense. He sold it all—to get out and have a chance to battle this,” reportedly said Freddy. “It wiped them out.”

Trapboy Freddy’s words caused a mixed reaction on the internet. While no official documents have proven that Beezy had sold all his assets, the story spread rapidly via internet forums as well as social media.

Also lending credibility to Freddy’s heartfelt appeal is the duo’s background. Yella Beezy and Trapboy Freddy have been a collaborative team on various tracks, including their collaborative mixtape “I’m My Brother’s Keeper” and the song “Let Me Find Out“. Not only have they been partners on the microphone but have publicly defended each other as well, implying a bond that extends past the professional—a friendship developed in the highs and the lows within the Dallas rap world.

That a reportedly $2-million net-worth rap musician would be unable to make bail raises significant questions concerning the nature of wealth in the music business. Wealth tends to be invested in illiquid assets: houses, cars, jewels, and endorsements. Legal issues can not only suck up money fast, but end touring, streaming income, and publicity as well.

Beezy’s case reminds one that the appearance of wealth doesn’t always translate into financial security, particularly in the face of criminal indictment and the court of public opinion.
