As production on season five of Bridgerton is officially underway, Netflix announced three new cast members that will appear in recurring guest roles. Season five will follow Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and her second-chance romance with her late husband’s cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza).

In the forthcoming season, Tega Alexander will play Christopher Anderson, the son of Lord Marcus Anderson. “A Regency-era Casanova who could give the Bridgerton bachelors a run for their money,” reads the description of Christopher shared by Netflix. “Yet behind his cheeky facade lies a current of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him. The son of Lord Anderson will make his mark on society, one way or another
” On Instagram, Alexander posted, “I guess I’ll see you around the Ton,” with a top hat emoji.

In addition, Jacqueline Boatswain will play Michaela’s mother, Helen Stirling, who “seeks to guide—and occasionally push—her daughter through London’s social season, with equal measures of vivaciousness and tough love.” Finally, Gemma Knight Jones will play Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, “an old friend of Michaela’s who serves as her confidante and London guide. Beneath Elizabeth’s playful charm lies a grounded realist who is wise to the unspoken rules of society.”Video poster

The official logline for the upcoming season is as follows: “In Season 5, Francesca decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons, two years after the death of her beloved husband, Lord John Stirling. But when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.”

In the final moments of season four, Michaela leaves London following John’s death, despite promising Francesa she would stay with her. “She’s one of those people where the emotions are just, they’re too much. She can’t handle them,” Baduza told Town & Country. “I think Michaela is very used to pushing her emotions down, emotions that she’s not really comfortable with. She wants to just see lightness and happiness all the time, every time, because she’s going through so much internal struggle. When she can’t do that, physically, she just has to get away.”

No release date has been revealed yet for season five, but based on past releases, Bridgerton will likely return in 2027 or early 2028.
