Kelvin Fletcher confessed to feeling devastated as he and his wife, Liz, started emptying their “dream family home” after a catastrophic blaze.
In the most recent instalment of Fletcher’s Family Farm, broadcasting on Sunday, Kelvin and Liz visited their family residence as they gear up for its reconstruction. The Fletcher household was forced to vacate after a fire broke out while they were away on holiday.
Liz and Kelvin appeared visibly moved whilst examining their fire-ravaged belongings, determining which items to salvage and which to discard. Kelvin revealed he felt “so detached” and had “lost his connection” to the property since its destruction.
In a voiceover, Kelvin pondered, “It’s hard to believe how long it’s been since the fire at the farmhouse. The smoke damage made the house unlivable, and insurance rules meant the place had to stay untouched for months. But today’s a big moment, we can finally start clearing the site and begin the journey towards rebuilding.”
“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for,” Liz said. “The delivery of the skip, because that means that we can finally clear it out and rebuild the house, and we can get back in the house,” reports The Mirror.

“And it has felt like forever, like over a year ago, when we stood here just looking at the damage and thinking, ‘what are we going to do?’ And now we stood here thinking, ‘You’ve got to start somewhere’.”
Whilst the pair commenced rescuing possessions worth preserving, Kelvin declared enthusiastically, “This is the beginning of the next chapter, the rebuild.”
Before commencing the renovation, Kelvin and Liz had to undertake the daunting task of clearing out the property. The former soap actor confessed, “And when you’re dealing with a lifetime of memories and belongings, it’s not an easy task.”

Liz appeared to take the lead in determining what could be salvaged from the ruins, but during this process, Kelvin experienced a poignant revelation. He admitted, “I’ve wanted to start this for almost 18 months, and then I’ve become so detached.
“You walk past it, and I’ve just lost my connection, really, which is heartbreaking to say, but it was our home. It was our dream home in many ways, and to have that disconnect, and you’re just so busy with everything else, and the process has been so long, it’s just finally good to turn a new page and finally start the rebuild. “.
Liz also conceded that she felt “sad” when traversing their fire-damaged home. She continued, “It still makes me so sad when I come in and see it like this, but the thought now that we can just clear up.
“People say, ‘Oh, you’ve had some bad luck this year’. And, yeah, but actually, we do always say we’ve been so lucky that we weren’t here. I just can’t imagine what that would have been like.
“I spent my childhood with my mum and dad building and decorating. The house was never finished. The house got finished when they sold it. I feel like I’m just repeating my childhood now.
“I’m gonna live on a building site for the best of my life, and probably when we finish it, then we will be so old that we sell it and move on. History, repeating itself.”
Fletcher’s Family Farm is available to watch on ITVX.
