Viewers captivated by Maternal Instinct should make this Netflix documentary their next watch.

The streaming platform released Maternal Instinct on 12 June, and it’s already soared to the top spot on the most-watched films chart. The documentary examines the deeply troubling case of Texan woman Taylor Parker.

Parker’s tale begins in 2020, when she was stopped by police for erratic driving and offered a seemingly reasonable explanation: she had just given birth.

However, matters took a dark twist upon her hospital admission, when medical staff could find no evidence she had ever been pregnant. The investigation gradually evolved into a horrific murder case that ultimately landed Parker on death row.

The documentary focuses on a couple, Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn, whose California home was broken into during the early hours in 2015. The perpetrator abducted Huskins while leaving Quinn behind.

When Quinn alerted the police, officers dismissed his account. The situation became increasingly complex when Huskins returned just over 48 hours later.

A synopsis teases: “After a home invasion and abduction, a young couple’s recounting of the events is too far-fetched for the police to believe.

“Why did the victims seem so calm? Was it all a hoax? From the filmmakers behind The Tinder Swindler, this docuseries unravels the consequences of our cultural rush to judgment, and the damage done when law enforcement decides the truth can’t possibly be true.”

Incorporating interrogation footage and exclusive interviews, the series delves into the couple’s pursuit of justice.
