Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor allegedly once called Sarah Ferguson a “fat cow” as she struggled with her weight. Former Vanity Fair editor, Tina Brown, claimed in her book, The Palace Papers, that the former prince uttered the two-word insult to Fergie’s face.

Ms Brown wrote that Andrew walked in on his ex-wife during a 2015 lunch meeting she was having with a US media executive at Royal Lodge, where she and her former husband used to live. The author stated in her book that Andrew asked: “What are you doing with this fat cow?”

In her book, Ms Brown said the US exec was “stunned” at Andrew’s “sadism” and thought he behaved like an “a**hole”. Sarah Ferguson at Royal Ascot 2025 - Day FourSarah Ferguson has spoken frankly about her weight and eating habits (Image: Getty)

Ms Ferguson, 66, has spoken frankly about her weight and eating habits in the past. She told The Today Show in 2015 that she was addicted to food before getting into shape.

The former duchess told the programme: “My addiction was food. I used it to suppress my feelings and therefore every time I went through something – a salacious lie the media might tell about me – I ate to compensate.

“I got to a point where I just couldn’t bear looking at myself any minute longer.”

She recalled weighing 13.57 stone (190 pounds) a year earlier, comparing the challenge of losing weight to the top of a mountain which appears impossible to climb.

Ms Ferguson praised a ketogenic diet, which the former Duchess of York said had improved her health and weight.

Meanwhile, Andrew’s ex-wife continues to stay out of the limelight in the wake of the Epstein files release by the US Justice Department.

She is reportedly wary of returning to the United States where lawmakers have urged her to testify before Congress in relation to Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal past.

Congressman, Suhas Subramanyam, wrote to Fergie two weeks ago, urging her to give evidence. She is not obliged to do so as she is not a US citizen. Being mentioned in the Epstein files is also no indication of any wrongdoing.

They told the publication: “She feels it would be unbearable and does not want to be put in a position under oath where she would be asked not only about Epstein but also about Andrew.”

The former duchess has faced criticism in recent weeks after Epstein documents showed she continued a relationship with the paedophile financier even after he was jailed for soliciting a minor for prostitution and procuring a person under 18 for prostitution.
